Auto Transport Preparation
Once you have your auto transport quotes and you've chosen an auto transporter you'll need to get your vehicle ready for shipping before it gets picked up or you otherwise leave it in the possession of the auto shipper.
Planning in advance will help alleviate problems:
- Have your car serviced before shipment. Check your tire pressure, top off fluids, and check your battery. Get any leaks fixed.
- If you're transporting the vehicle to a harsh weather area, get it ready for its new home by servicing the AC, boosting its anti freeze protection, or by changing the oil to an oil of proper weight that is suitable in the destination climate.
- It's a very good idea to inspect the car on your own before going over it with the driver. This will give you more time to note any existing damage, including dents, nicks and scratches.
- Remove any non-permanent auto accessories, including roof luggage carriers that are not a permanent part of the vehicle, after market spoilers, large side mirrors, and the like. Lower (where possible, remove) the antenna. If you have an E-Z pass or similar device, take it out of the car.
- When shipping vehicles overseas, clean their undercarriages to avoid problems in importing/exporting your car.
